Changes to the Australia Skilled Occupation List

Feb 27, 2018 | News | 0 comments

Australia is often called the land of Milk and Honey. It’s a land full of opportunity, lifestyle and choice. That’s why every year hundreds of thousands of foreign workers choose to live and work in Australia.

The starting point for many is an understanding of the skills and occupations the Government of the day wants to bring to Australia to make the country even better. This is set out in The Skilled Occupation List (SOL). This list of skilled occupations that deliver high-value skills needed to build the Australian economy is the only list you need to refer to.

SOL aims to meet the medium- to long-term skills needs of high-value occupations, rather than immediate short-term shortages. This list can help you decide what to study if you are thinking of moving to Australia.

The suitability of occupations for inclusion on the SOL is assessed regularly so you have to keep checking what’s in and what’s out!

In January 2018, Department of Home Affairs announced changes to Australia’s Skilled Occupation Lists.
What’s been added to the SOL?

  • Psychotherapist
  • Property Manager
  • Real Estate Representative

What’s gone from the SOL?

  • Hair or Beauty Salon Manager
  • Building Associate

Check out the Department of Home Affairs website for the full list.
