What evidence of my English Proficiency do I need to provide?

Remember, evidence of your English Language proficiency is required by the University that you are applying to study at and the Department of Home Affairs. These are required for different reasons and may require different pass levels.
What evidence of my English Proficiency do I need to provide?
Students may need to provide an up-to-date certificate of an English language test as part of the application process. This will depend on what course you wish to study and individual University requirements. Typical scores are shown below:
- Vocational education courses will require Academic IELTS score of 5.5 Overall with minimum of 5.0 in all bands or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Business degree will require Academic IELTS score of 6 Overall with minimum of 6.0 in all bands or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Nursing/Medicine/Health degree will require Academic IELTS score of 7 Overall with minimum of 7 in all bands or equivalent
- Master’s degree will require Academic IELTS score of 6.5 Overall with minimum of 6 in all bands or equivalent
English Requirements for Visa processing
Students from USA, Canada, New Zealand, UK and Republic of Ireland are exempt from this language requirement.
Regardless of a Universities requirements, all other applicants must still satisfy the Department of Home Affairs English Language proficiency requirements for student visa applications in the table below.
